BLUEGRASSNOTES:

"If you love Bluegrass, this is the site!"

These following shots are some of our favorite folks, local band buddies, heroes and family!

Carl Bailey, one of my favorite Florida people.  He plays like Uncle Josh...straight out!  Carl is from Plant City and is currently playing with "Bits Of Grass."

Frank Poindexter & "Maddy"

You have heard of the famous "Poindexter Scuppernong Wine?"  This is the label I designed that goes on every bottle.

Ran into Lee Kotick and his wife at the LRB festival.  Love this guy!  His wife is really nice and we had not met her before.

What's with the watch?  They are Bulova Spaceview Accutron watches made from 1960-1977.  Originally made as a showcase window demo of what was behind the dial of an Accutron tuning fork watch, but they were sold by the Jewelers when customers asked.  So Bulova went to work.  Frank Poindexter has several, Tony Rice has a bunch, Wyatt, Larry and Ronnie Rice have them, Phil Leadbetter and others.  Owned one back in the early 60s but lost track of it.  Now, thanks to Laurie, I have two, one 1961 18k gold and one SS 1965 model.  This is the SS model above.  My gold one is at the top in the photo below and Phil's is the one below mine.  On Phil's arm.  Funny how that worked out.

Tony Rice and Bob...sent the autographed hat back

to Bobby Poff with a note, "Somebody wrote on this one."

Bobby Wolfe, leader of The Wolfepack!

Tut, Bobby and Bobby W.

This is "Bunky Wolfe."  Shop manager, Quality Control Specialist and Vice President of Wolfe Resonator Guitars.

Bobby Wolfe in a business meeting with Mr. Bunky.  Bunky wants to see a reso with catnip and fresh tuna fret markers.  What the heck... Rezonator will buy one.

Bob & Frank Poindexter at Merlefest '04

Rob Ickes, Richard "Rezonator" Edenfield & Tim Scheerhorn.  Taken the evening of August 5 at the Station Inn in Nashville.

"Rezonator" Edenfield and Mike Auldridge... one of my heroes.

PRIVATE JAM in APRIL '05 CLEARWATER BEACH:  (Ben Eldridge in Orange) Left to right:  My "hand," Big Jim Furniss, Ben Eldridge, Walter Fields, Gary Vernon, Don Cornett (Doug Demaire in background green shirt)

The rest of "me" Bob and Ben on guitar...“Juanita” 1936 Martin D-28 Herringbone owned by Jim Furniss, and his pride & joy!

Big Jim Furniss, one of my favorite people on Earth!  Laurie took this shot at a Bluegrass Picnic.  Big Jim uses it as a logo on his website: www.bigjimfurniss.com  Check it out.  He is great artist and has samples of his art on the site.  Ben Eldridge is one of his oldest and dearest friends and the private jam we held was at Big Jim's place.

Leon Poindexter, Frank's brother in Sarasota, FL and one heck of a picker and entertainer!  Sings like Jimmy Rogers and yodels, too!

Laurie is thinking about giving up fiddle here... not.  Just being nice holding "Woof" while I fetch something.

My buddy Jim Harris and my Laurie

Laurie's new wheels...not a fiddle... but it is sweet!

KIM from the Jerry Douglas BB provided the following shots taken at GREY FOX this past July.  BillinRI hosts the "Pancake Jam" and is a great guy.

Grey Fox Pancake Jam:  "Beanbass" left, "BillinRI" (the host!) right!

"SquareNeckYank" aka Matt.  This is one funny person on the JDBB and I love his take on issues.

Munchin' and jammin' at Grey Fox.  Love to make this event some day soon!  By the way,   "Pete Reichwein (white beard, green shirt, shorts).   As

the dobro goes he is a major part of Grey Fox, jamming, teaching kids, doing

dobro clinics and running the sound at the Masters' Tent.  Also known for

writing THE treatise on chords, scales and rolls for dobro." ---Clayhillbilly

"Steelphil" tuning at the Pancake jam.

"Slideman77" getting ready to much some of them pancakes!

Look Ma...no hands!  This posture makes playing a breeze until they go from G to C.  Then it becomes very difficult.  The orange band is issued from the local authorities used to track suspicious characters under "tent arrest."

Folks, this is the future of Bluegrass!  Keep on pickin' kids!  Thanks Kim for the shots.

This is my other "Life."

Karate, specifically a Korean style, St. Petersburg Tang Soo Do.  This photo is of our founding members with J. J. Kim.

L to R:  Master Bobby Hillis, Grandmaster J.J. Kim, Jason Grooms and Master Bob Osborne.  This photo was from around 1992 when I was a 2nd degree Black Belt and I earned my 3rd about two weeks later.  Achieved 5th Degree "Master" status a few years ago and had to retire from it all because of physical hip conditions, since repaired.  We founded our own school in 1991 as "St. Petersburg Tang Soo Do," members of Grandmaster Kim's World Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation.  I fought in state, regional & national tournaments from 1985 till 1995 and was state ranked for 8 of those years in the top 3.  OK, now you know why my face looks like this.

But, guess what?  It was worth it because I met Laurie through our martial arts.  She earned a 1st degree Black Belt, too.

Currently SPTSD is anchored by Mark & Mike Mathews, plus Candice Mathews (Mike's wife) and Nick Mathews (Son of Mark).  Great people who have kept the school going!
