Florida Jams MORE COMING SOON, shots of local Florida/Tampa Bay bluegrass jams. Check out Suwannee, Merlefest and more from buttons to the left.

Walter Fields and Don Cornett at the park in Zephyrhills, FL.

At the park in Zephyrhills.

Under the shade trees jam at Zephryhills. That is Jim Harris in the big black cowboy hat to my left side and Don Cornett behind Jim. Doug Demaire over to the right on banjo. The truncated Yankee guy on mandolin with the large belly? No offense, but like my buddy Bobby Poff says, "All hat and no cattle." It's Walt. He threatens to whoop me when I kid him. That would be fun.
Lee Schafley, one of our favorite folks and a great musician...bass, fiddle, banjo & sax! He amazes us with his fiddle breaks. He and wife Sharon come down from Michigan every year and we can't wait to hook up with them. Lee is a member of our Mountain Memories Band.

This photo is a typical jam at the Bluegrass Shop in St. Pete every Saturday in the small old original shop area. The room for the jams was expanded to twice the size for about 3 years, but they have recently consolidated and moved it into the adjacent new space and sub-let the original side.

Big Jim Furniss at The Chapel By The Sea Church with our "Friends Of Bluegrass." Sadly, Big Jim passed away on Memorial Day in 2007 from a heart attack. Marcy passed away about a year earlier from cancer.

We played a mobile home breakfast gig and had a ball... and breakfast, too. Tried to record the music and it sounded like the assembly line at Corning Ware juggling plates, cups and silverware!
The late great Elson Smith, founder & shop owner, and Bobby "FloridaBob" at The Bluegrass Shop on a Saturday. Elson loved my hat.

That is Buddy Moody singing. Buddy is an incredible singer and picker and he is totally blind. You'd never guess it if you listened to him.

That is Mister Doug Demaire... Doug Dillard clone! One of the nicest people you could ever meet and one heck of a 5-string picker! Doug is a great guy and his wife Barbara is a number one lady! Love them both.

Carl Bailey at the Bluegrass Shop. This is #1 dobro picker in Florida in our opinions. Major "Josh clone" and great person, too. The dobro is a custom made by RQ Jones with Carl's name in the fretboard. Says if you pick it somewhere around the 8th fret, "It sounds like L."

"Friends Of Florida Bluegrass" at Big Jim's church, Chapel By The Sea in Clearwater, FL. Bob Miller, Marcy Campbell, Big Jim, Jim Harris and Bobby Hillis. Marcy has since gone clear, too and we really miss this spunky little lady.
